Patches of skin coming off with sheds?

Has anyone ever seen a boa shed and then have patches where 20-50 scales were apparently torn away? These are animals that have been raised and cared for in the same way with the same environment for years. It doesn't look moist or weepy, but rather dry. I have never heard of anything like it and was wondering if anyone else had any insight into the situation. I would sure appreciate any info.
