silica free play sand is avaliable in 40 lb bags from Home Depot for $1.69. 40 lbs puts a one inch layer in teh bottom of my 55 gallon and its a nice fine sand.
I dont buy expensive reptile sands because when you have big enclosures to fill, its just not worth the money. The same amount of reptile sand would cost me $90, and since it has to be changed every three to six months, its just a lot more economical to go with sifted playsand.
