You're not being a patronizing jerk, I believe you've hit the proverbial nail on the head. We on this forum are biased and think reptiles are cool and should not be destroyed. However, I myself would not want hundreds of garter snakes in my basement. (If I had a basement, it would have dozens of snakes that I wanted in cages) I would be looking for means to clear them out. Yes, I would not be killing them, unless I had to!

Like you said, how about an infestation of some other creature. How about feral cats, bears, bees, wasps or termites.
