Wow! As a former English major and a snake owner I just loved the D.H. Lawrence poem...I actually took a seminar in Lawrence and don't recall ever reading that poem...thanks...It reminds me of an Emily Dickenson poem about a snake that I'll look up and print here if I can find it...
