Eastern painteds and sliders do not hibernate on dry land. They hibernate under water. You would need to have a suitable pond (at least three feet deep) outside with pond heater in it to keep a hole open in the ice during the Winter.



I believe they will breed (sliders most certainly) without being hibernated.
