Snakes over eating

I have heard of snakes trying to eat a meal that was to large,but has anyone heard of one over eating? I thought they would not eat if if they weren't hungry.What harm could become of feeding heavy as long as the snake is growing and defecating regular? I think you would rather be on the heavy side than not enough.
