ill viper boa

my friend bought a small viper boa the other day and it is very sick, if has a lot of mucus and makes a clicking noise when it breathes. how can he help it or prevent it from happening again? i would guess it has something to do with humidity. what is the humidity suposed to be like? because we dont know what kind of place it was in before he bought it, so maybe they didnt have something right in the cage.
