I have the best luck with picky eaters when I put them in a small, dark erea with the rat. Say, inside a Rubbermaid, and put the Rubbermaid inside the snakes cage. A pillow case, or paper bag works well too. Sometimes the bag, or pillow case works better, because they can't see out of it. Some Boas are so interested in what's going on outside of their cage, they will ignore the rat. Some of my Boas will only eat if I dangle/wiggle the rat in front of them with a hemostat.
I've never heard of the chicken broth idea. Seems like it would work well.
