Hey ~ A couple of years back, I had an encounter when I left for a few minutes 3 juvenile Grey Ratsnakes in with a juvenile Western Hognose while cleaning a tank. The Hognose although shorter in length, was greater in girth than the Rats.
A few moments later, I returned to find the tail of one Ratsnake sticking out of the hogs mouth. I gently pulled against it and was able to retrieve one live Ratsnake and one dead and bloodied ratsnake. This whole event took only moments which tells me the Hognose was fast on the attack and immediately recognised the Ratsnakes as a food source.
I have photographs and or video of Newly born Northern watersnakes, Newly born Northern Copperheads and hatchling Northern Blackracers swallowing siblings with no other food source in the enclosures. Thanks, Leo
