My first boa was a brazilian rainbow. They are classed as 'not for beginers', just because they are more demanding in temperatures and humidity levels then a red tail. You have to really keep an eye on thier tanks to make sure they aren't too dry/wet, and that they have enough heat and air circulation at the same time. If you can handle checking the temp and humidity levels everyday, then you will do fine with a rainbow. They are amazing, and have great personalities. The one you are talking about sounds like it would be really nice and good of you to give him/her a nice home too. They do get 5-7 feet (females get bigger then males) but they are not heavy bodied like a redtail is, you know?? Hogs are awesome too, and would be easier to care for. I'm not sure about Hogislands, but I know I've never had a rainbow miss a meal, they are great eaters. Hope this helps!!
