Pleas know this is not an attack, or inquisition of any kind. In the hopes of helping to answer this void in the Het. Red Axanthic story, here is what I know.
***This is a recount of the "facts" as I have been told:
As I have been told, When Corey purchased his "blackbacks' from SK he bred them together to produce better blackbacks, when he hatched what looked like Axanthics (years after he purchased the animals from SK), he called to see if it was possible to get more siblings and the parents. SK had sold the parents and other siblings a couple of years earlier (right after Corey made his blackback purchase). Those original animals had supposedly been sold and traded a few times and it took quite some time for SK to track them down. I was told they were able to get what they believe may have been one of the original parent animals and that is the founding stock for the SK line Het. Red Axanthics.
Here are the lines I know of: Proven to produce Red Axanthics: 1. Corey's line (Ralph's animal from Corey, and the resulting offspring)
2. An imported animal that was bred to a "Corey Woods" line animal and produced a Red Axanthic (supposedly happened this past season at first breeding of the imported male)
Proven to produce blackbacks: There are several animals that have been proven to produce "blackbacks". Many have been imported, or pop up in captive breedings. I own 3 separate animals that are not from Het. Red Axanthic stock that when bred to normals 1/2 the clutch is blackbacked like dad. Corey has proven blackbacks that are not from Red Axanthic stock, so do many others...
Again, this is what I have been told. I have seen Ralph's breeder Red Axanthic from Corey, my original male is the offspring of Ralph's Red Axanthic to a normal.
***My Opinion*** In my opinion, there is a reason to purchase Het. Reds with proven Red Axanthic lineage.
My point (and I believe JAS's point) is that unless I see an actual Red Axanthic resulting from a blackback to blackback breeding, or know the lineage of a blackback can be traced to an actual Red Axanthic, it is not a "proven line" simply because it makes 1/2 blackbacked offspring when bred.
Please keep in mind that I am not saying there are blackbacks that will not prove to be Het. Red Axanthics in time. Because I believe some of the unproven or imported lines will prove out, but most will not.
If I am unclear, or if there are any details I left out, I hope others will add to the conversation.
Thanks, and I hope that helps.
