Sq. Tail boas were originally imported from Germany. The original breeders in Germany were Becher Siegfried and Frank Lehmann. The Sq. Tails can be one of the most beautiful boas, and are pretty variable, but fairly consistant in certain traits. They typically have a green iridescence in the tail, a white horizonal tail stripe at side, they can be extremely clean, they tend to stay very nice and not change much as they age, they can be very red, or a very soft creme color, they have excellent temperments in not being aggressive at all, very hardy, some have a connecting pattern, some don't, they tend to have a blue grey eye color, and of course the sq.tail or ladder tail look. I am posting pictures of some of the better examples of the boas.
It seems to me the color and some other pattern issues may be a dominate trait and the sq.tail expression may be recessive, but not proven to me. I have bred a male sq. tail to a normal boa and had offspring that were outstanding. I also bred a male sq.tail to an albino female and had a slightly premature clutch with two almost full term albinos. Did not understand that one at all.
Hope you enjoy the photos,
John Manser
