i guess i didnt take into account wild snake encounters. thankfully (or regretably for me) we live where no venomous species live. massassauga rattlers are native to our area but i think they are about gone. our dog is very curious, and would probably be bitten by a wild snake. he did find a nest of VERY young rabbits before though in the woods. i thought for sure they were goners, but he only sniffed their butts. scared the little things near to death, but no casualties. he is very gentle to all living things. a real sweeeetie.
