Only kept Gophers as far as Pits go, so I can definitely tell you that the "head raising" is definitely a Gopher trait. My Great Basin does it, my little Pacific does it, and my San Diego used to do it. Very attuned to the environment outside of their tanks. Just one of the many things to love about Gophers.
