Nairobi: A family in Rachuonyo District yesterday found a three-metre-long python in their homestead when they woke up in the morning.
Mr Jeremiah Onono said the snake, which was later named Omieri after the huge python of the Nyakach area in Nyando District that made newspaper headlines some years ago, was discovered in a hole next to his house.
"I had just woken up yesterday morning to start my daily chores when I was attracted by a loud hiss from a hole near my house," he recalled.
"But when I peeped into the hole, I saw the huge python relaxing. I was quite terrified since I had never seen such a thing in my life."

Mr Onono said he quickly informed his neighbours and then alerted the Kenya Wildlife Service.
"But we waited in vain for the KWS officials to pick up the python," he said. "The villagers then became impatient and decided to kill it. We buried it next to a nearby secondary school."
According to Luo beliefs, the appearance of such a huge snake is a harbinger of good fortune.
She appears after a prolonged disaster such as drought or famine. She then lays eggs and when they hatch, good luck is on the way.
But other people believe Omieri is a symbol of the devil that should not be tolerated.
