Rat Bite

A rat gave my snake a pretty serious bite to the top of his head. I did not notice it for a few days. The sore is about
1/4 inch long and I can see pink. I put an antibacterial creme on it. He doesnt withdrawl as if in pain when I do this. I was wondering if I should take him to the vet or will it heal on its own??? amickey1979@gmail.com Any help would be appreciated.
