Aside from not reacting in pain, and hiding, what other behavioral clues has your snake given you? Is it normally a 'head shy' snake that wouldn't want you to touch its head? If so I would be VERY concerned.



If your snake has never cared one way or the other whether you touch/inspect his head, then the lack of a pain response in itself isn't anything to worry about. You have to look for other clues about how serious this is. If your snake is especially lethargic, shows poor muscle tone, is somewhat limp, or does not flick his tongue, then regardless of how head shy or tolerant he may normally be, I would be VERY VERY concerned!



You haven't given too much info to go on here, so mull it over. In a couple of days, you may see some healing of the wound... or your snake could be dead. If you feel like you should maybe take your snake to the vet, the fact that you are asking yourself that question should be good enough: take your snake to the vet!
