Here's my understanding -
When initially the male is put with a female, his courting behavior can STIMULATE her to ovulate. They may mate before ovulation happens, but sometimes a female can ovulate without a male even being around. I think the male needs to be left with the female for at least a few weeks after ovulation to make sure enough sperm gets deposited/retained.
But it is difficult to tell if the order matters! It depends a lot on the female, and the situation, and how much sperm has been deposited.
Welcome to the confusing world of boa breeding! When I tell friends/relatives that I'm trying to breed my snakes, they ask a few questions, but usually they end up more confused than before they asked! Heh. ----- Lauren Madar - OphidiaGems.com
