Kahl and Sharp strains are known to be incompatible because of a breeding done by Brian Sharp in the early years of the projects of a Het for one strain bred to a homozygous animal of the other strain. All offspring were wild type. Since no Albinos were produced, it was concluded that the two mutations are NOT compatible. Though much of that could have been assumed to occur looking at the differences between the two strains by examining founding stock.
The Kahl strain comes from a group of 4 Albino boas imported in 1983. Peter Kahl bought one of the males around the end of the decade. He may have bought a second, but I do not know so DO NOT quote me on that. Anyway, the rest can be figured out.
The Sharp strain comes from one Albino female. Her color was burnt orange, and different from the Kahl strain.
A lot of selective breeding has been done with Kahl strain animals; as a result, there are a WIDE variety of appearances. Classically the Kahl strain matured to a pale yellow snake. While the Sharp matured to hold its color and pattern and intensify with the noted burnt orange color. Because of certain breedings done with Sharps some bloodlines no longer have the broad saddles and widows peaks of the founding matriarch, nor as intense of coloration. Though many are more beautiful (however this is obviously arguable and must be determined by the individual).
A final difference is in price, due to the rarity of the Sharp strain. Kahl Albinos can be found from $600-$1500 for neonates, Sharps are $2500-4000.
A few years ago a breeder in the UK imported from Colombia one or more Albino boas. He bred them to Kahl strain animals and produced Albinos, introducing new compatible stock.
There have been rumors of other subspecies and locales outside of Colombian imperator having Albinos. So far the only public validated one is a male Suriname BCC.
