If I probe them, I don't have to make an "educated guess". Granted, when I'm looking at adults, I have no questions. I can tell at a glance, and not just because the females are larger. LOL.

But if your method were foolproof, we should all be in total agreement on the proper answer to your quiz. And I fear we're not.
