I don't think the seller was trying to save on shipping, as it was irrelevant to me as to how much shipping would be. I had talked to the seller for perhaps a month before placing an order. He sells very few snakes, and had some Dumeril's boas because a female he purchased from someone else arrived gravid. This snake had about 5 feedings before he decided to sell her. He wasn't asking for any kind of unreasonable rate on the snake (about average for a Dumeril's Boa). He still has a few of her siblings left.
I honestly think the seller never took into consideration that the holidays would interfere with the delivery. He's been terribly worried--more so than me about the fate of the snake. He's offered a full refund or to send a sibling if the snake had perished. But he's hoping that she had made it too.
I don't think the seller was trying to be greedy. He might've been trying to have the snake there before Christmas.
