A lot depends on the size of the cage that you are trying to heat. Other variables include the ambient temperature of the room and how high the heating element is placed above the cage floor. You really won't know unless you break out a themometer. If the snake is in something the size of a 20-gallon aquarium, you'd probably be better off taking a more conservative route and using a 40, 60 or 75 watt red (or black) light bulb.
