Posted by: graynightblue at Mon Jan 1 23:58:04 2007 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by graynightblue ] We have three boa constrictors. Up untill recently we have been keeping them all in a 6' x 4' x 3' terrarium. For two months they were in a basement while we were in the process of moving to a new place. They had plenty of heat lamps on them but being in a basement we were not able to completely regulate the temps the way that we would have wanted to. So it was a bit colder than normal. We believe that two of them are male and one of them female by their spurs tho we have never had them sexed. However one of the ones that we believed was a male is now quite large and from the few pictures we could find on the internet we fear may be pregnant or ovulating tho he has been quite large for about a week and a half now. He is now in his own terrarium. He ate a Rodent Pro XXXXL Guinea Pig on December 8th. We don't believe he has defecated yet tho it was hard to keep track as we normaly would with them all three sharing the same enclosure. We first believe the large swelling was due to the large meal. Since it has yet to pass or reduce in size we are not sure. We have been soaking him quite frequently to help him pass what we believed may have been his last meal. Up untill Friday the 29th we didn't feed him again (which was about 8 days past when we would have fed him again) thinking he may be constipated. On friday when we fed the rest of our snakes he was quite hungry so he was fed a small meal. If he is actualy a female AND pregnant... we are not ready for this. We live in Laurel, MD and do not know anyone or enough of anyones that may want new babies in their families. If anyone is familiar with the area (we just moved here) and could suggest a vet or someone with experience in the area that we may be able to consult on the subject we are all ears. Any suggestions on finding homes? We are caring for him/her the best we can but we do not know if there is anything we can be doing better. We are keeping his temps at 80 on the cool side and 91 on the hot side with 1/3rd of his tank as a hide and a 4" x 8" water container which he can partialy submerge into. We use paper towels as substrate with carpet underneath. His cage top is 2/3rds plexiglass and 1/3rd screen. We mist him once a day since it is fairly dry in the area. Last and worse case scenario what would be the most humane way to put the babies down if we aren't able to find homes where they would be properly cared for? Thank you all for your time help. It is greatly apreciated. [ Hide Replies ]
