I have the 1.5's. I don't think it really matters as long as you have a thermostat. The boa will move around to warm herself as she wants. IMO if I had 2X's I don't think I'd cut them down. Again, a thermostat is the only way to go. The larger heat elements are really only needed if your room temps are low. But again with a thermostat, more element than needed is no big deal.
