first thing to do would be remove the newt from the fish tank!!!!
Dispite what "petstore" people say, or what you might here from others, ambibians do not make good comunity animals unless housed with there own species. You will heare many people say that they had a newt that lived with fish and nothing bad happend, but was the animal realy happy? most newts will avoid fish inhabited waters in there naitive lands (with some exceptions). Do your research fist people, most of the problems that happen with animals weather it be amphibians, reptiles, birds or mamals come from improper knowledge of the speceis (or breed). If most of the resources you find say dont do it but you find one that says it's ok than most likely it is not ok to do!
Your newt may be fine as long as secondary infection dose not set in, but... if it does an animal like that will be hard to treat basicaly because the public views them as throw away pets, requiering little to no care!
