Red Ears do shed on their shells as well as their body.



when you say your slider is crawling around, do you mean on his haul out area (where he can bask etc.) or at the bottom of the water section? SLiders can swim quite well but if there isn't much room for them to move around, they may not be able to swim well.



Unfortunately I don't know alot about RES's to really guess much more. There is a very interesting acticle on their basic are and husbandry needs in the July issue of Reptile Magazine. Might be worth picking up. Hopefully one of the more experienced RES keepers will post more detail suggestions than I can.
