Finally Breeding

My husband and I have 2 ball pythons - one is 7 yrs old and the other is 5 1/2 yrs old. . They didn't start showing any real signs of breeding until a few months ago. This past week we have seen them coiled up and actually "doing the deed". Does anyone know why they waited this long to start breeding? Could we have just not had the right conditions until now? Any opinions?
