I obtained my undergrad degree in bio from BGSU in 1998, when Dr. Underwood was just developing the Herp Lab. She really sparked my interest in herpetology. I had taken several herpetology electives/courses with her as my professor. She is one of the nicest professors (and a nice person in general)you'll ever meet AND she is extremely knowledgeable with respect to reptile husbandry and care so I highly doubt that she said those exact words that were printed/quoted in the article.

I know everyone is quick to jump when statements by keepers are incorrect, but have some hope/faith that it was simply an error in the reporting/editing AND not the source. Who knows...maybe she'll see the article and request some sort of correction. Besides, she really has done a lot for promoting reptile awareness & education, especially in a town where owning any reptile was made illegal decades ago by fearful lawmakers.
