Do you think it's cold? I know I do. I don't have a lot of free time on a day like today except that is the weekend and I don't breath a lot of glue fumes on Sundays. I do get to look at the Boas though...
I got up this morning to a -14 degree sunny morning in Minnesota. That is 14 degrees below zero. For folks who are not familiar with cold. That is 46 degrees colder than the temperature water freezes at. Cold. Let me illustrate. Take 32 degrees when water freezes and increase the temperature by 46 degrees. That is 78 degrees. You know how much colder 32 degrees feels compared to 78 degrees? Now take that 32 degree temperature and reduce it by the same amount (46 degrees) and you have Minnesota this morning. That is what it was like this morning when I got up. For you folks in sunny Miami Florida who are suffering with a 68 degree day. So you remember that one time it went all the way down to 35 degrees in sunny Florida? Remember that? You know how much colder that feels than the chilly 68 degrees you are struggling with today? That is a 33 degree temperature difference. Now take off another 49 degrees from that day when you thought the world was going to end when it dropped all the way down to 35 degrees and that is Minnesota on a down right cold Super Bowl Sunday in 2007. Many whine and complain up here like they had no idea they in fact lived here in Minnesota. Not me. Cold? Yea. It gets cold up here. You can't leave your bare skin exposed outside for more than amount ten minutes when there is a little breeze outside like there is today. It's so cold that your skin actually hurts. Your nose starts to feel thicker and less pliable than normal. Your eyes feel like they are glassed over from that thin layer of ice that has formed on them in the windy frozen tundra that is Minnesota. Because of this really cold weather many people have different and varied responsibilities as a result. You spend, of I should say, I spend my day checking and rechecking the furnace that heats the house. Check a few Boas...
I check and recheck the furnace that heats the plastic shop. Better go check a few Boas...
I check and recheck the propane tanks and heaters that keep my rats comfortable and their water lines from freezing. Then I check a few Boas...
I check and recheck the outside cats who have a heated retired Boaphile 422D cage to escape the cold. Time to check a few Boas...
What are those white specks on the sides of that Boa anyhow??? I check and recheck the dog too who, though she is a Samoyed, seems to be feeling the effects of the cold as well. Oh yea, and I check a few more Boas...
So lots of checking and rechecking but it's all great. The abominable temps we endure here in the winter mean we will not be enduring the 150 or more days you will suffer in 90 degree plus weather plus that humidity that makes all your clothes fall off. Thankfully that kind of heat is only visited upon us around 15 days each summer on average. I still manage to keep my clothes on even on those hot days much to the delight of all who see me. Think I'll check another Boa...

So, while it's cold I keep my hat handy, my parka warm inside and my gloves at the ready as I will need to make another run shortly. I need to make sure everything is OK. Did I mention that the cars are not crazy about starting when it is below zero? They really complain like many of the misplaced people who live in Minnesota not knowing that that corporate transfer was punishment from a colleague that never forgot how they were wronged and pulled the right strings to force that transfer to chilly Minnesota. Ah Minnesota. The land of snow and ice. No place I'd rather be... checking... Boas of course!
