A PIT tag is injected sub-q and away you go. However their are two downfalls that I've seen. One, the scanner has to be inches away from the transponder to read ( you'd have to know where the chip was implanted to make sure you not missing it ) and two, the bodies defense system might recognize it as a foreign invader and eventually push it out; Similair to a sub-q parasite.
