One possible explanation is that the "special" gene is another mutant allele of the white snake complex which already apparently includes lesser, butter, mojave, phantom, Vin Russo, and perhaps a dilute gene that turns lesser into PLATINUM but is otherwise hard or perhaps impossible to see on its own.
