First soak him in a tub of warm water till his shed starts coming off on its own. Then build a humidity box (can look them up online should be detailed descriptions) as well as supplying a dry hide for him. This way he doesn't need to hide in a moist area all the time if he doesn't want to, that way you wouldn't have to adjust the whole tank. Wait till his next shed, if it comes off clean the box worked. I'm not sure how great these boxes are though i've never used one.

I use wood tops and spray the sides of my cage as much as i need to to keep the humidity in. Screen tops let this out big time, the best cages are the plastics meant for snakes. But since i'm a fairly cheap person, i take all the old glass aquariums and build wood tops for them. Cut a little hole and cover with screen if you use heat lamps.
