Re: BSleeper's last comment on Crazy Thinking.
Smile.
This is not an attack. Just pointing something out.
I am quite sure that anyone who has been involved with Ball Pythons, since before SNOWS were produced, knew that breeding Axanthics to Amelanistics would produce...or at least in theory, SHOULD produce a nearly white snake. It is merely understanding what the genes do. Breeding these two snakes was done with the intention of making SNOWS. (Which were named prior to actually seeing the animals hatched.) Corn snakes were a great model for this theory. (Anery X Amel)
Had something different looking than "today's snows" been born, surely the proposed name would have been changed to corectly describe the combo.
As for the name, "OREO".....there are a lot of people working on this project. I have heard a jillion different names tossed around. For example: Orca Ball, Cookies n' Cream Ball, Panda Ball, Zebra Ball, Penguin Ball, Salt and Pepper Ball, Black Beans and Rice Ball, Prison Stipes Ball.
And my personal all time favorite names for the Super Cinny Pibald Ball Python...
The Cheap, Pre 1960's T.V. set Ball (aka, Black n'White)
The Cop Car Ball
The Segregation Ball
I know one guy (name withheld) who even said he would call it...
The Dirty Sanchez Ball!?!?
But my #1 personal favorite is:
The Tuxedo Ball.
This name evokes an image of the elite upper crust.
The top of the line, dressed to the nines.
A Ball Python wearing a Tuxedo.
"I'm sorry sir, you just can't get in without a Tux!"
The name game can be fun, but it can get a little out of hand.
Especially with different names for different proven lines of the same morph! I can see that it might be important to be able to differentiate between certain lines in cases of negative genetic traits....but you can go too far with the name game. Many people want to name things before they are even a proven out, genetically inheritable trait. This is ridiculous and not even ethical!
The problem with the "Tuxedo Ball" is that when you cross co-dom traits, or combine them with recessive traits, you can never be certain of the phenotypic outcome.
So, I think it is best for us to all have a little patience, and see what they really look like prior to slapping any names on them. Those who actually produce a TRUE MORPH first should be the ones to have the honor of naming that morph.
Hopefully the name will fit the appearance of the animal.
But we did have a little FUN with the name game.
