I recently made a trapbox that is effective, inexpensive, and seems like it is going to work well with large elapids (kings, mambas, etc).



It's an old rubbermaid snaptopper sweaterbox that has been pained with proper paint that readily adheres to plastic, and flexes with it as to not crack (to darken the box). For the door I used some extra flat stock steel that I had laying around. I used 3" for the door itself, and I think the track is 1 1/4" or so. With a little bit of welding, and some reinforcement on the inside of the box to give something solid to rivet to I had a nice door setup. I also welded some washers to the door and to the frame to make it easy to open/close with a snake hook, and easy to keep closed and secure once the animal is "trapped" (you could use anything from a ziptie, a nut/bolt, a lock, etc). Also, the box has been drilled so that zip ties can securely hold the lid (or in this case, the bottom) of the box, but can still be easily removed for cleaning etc.











I didn't want the snake to rough itself up etc on any of the surfaces (especially important on the inside of the box), so I used some body filler to make sure that everything was nice and smooth, and painted over it to seal it.
