Most species don't have that many "color morphs" or locales, or we simply don't see enough individuals of those species to know for sure. Species that have a large natural range that crosses a variety of vegetation and climate types like panthers are more likely to vary as local populations adapt (what works best in some parts of Madagascar may stand out like a sore thumb 50 miles away in a rainshadowed forest area). Most species have not been captive bred and had their color manipulated as much as veileds and panthers have. I suspect that many of the quieter colored veileds are results of inbreeding and less than perfect nutrition and care. [ Hide Replies ]
