raised pond for turtles?

I'd like to build a raised pond for my adult red eared slider for year-round usage (I live in a no-snow tropical climate). I want to build a 5x5 foot pond 1 1/2 feet deep with liner. I'd put a basking island in the middle, and stone overhand so that it couldn't climb over the edge. Is this construction ok? I'd hate to build it then have something go wrong!
