If I were you, I would try using some of the coconut bedding type stuff, that comes in the bricks that you soak in water. I use the Eco-something brand. Can't remember exactly. Got it from Petco. It keeps mites away, and I only have to mist once in a while. It's also light weight so they can burrow if they so choose. It also is aesthetically pleasing.
