i have some custom cages that my brother in law built for my beardies, out of interior grade plywood. i painted the insides with an oil based white paint, i allowed a week or so of drying to allow the fumes to settle down. they've been in there for 2 years now and never had a problem. i know it's not a direct response to your mdf question but someone raised concern about your paint selection. you should be fine,just let it air out first.
