She could have been trying to warm herself in order to keep the eggs warm. I know sometimes when a green tree pythons nest box is kept too cool they will go out and bask before returning to the eggs. That way they can release body heat to try to raise the temp of the eggs to a proper level. I have not heard of this in ball pythons but it may be possible.
