Where in south FL are you located?Seems to me they are popping up in the glades just about weekly, and they are pputting them down REGULARLY in Lee Co. where I am (Ft.Myers)I also saw a rather large non-indigenous snake of some sort @ Big Cypress last weekend in the water (what there is of it).I'm not sure exactly what type it was,as it was 50-60 feet from me in the water, and I could wrestle my field glasses from my kids fast enough to get a close look.I do know that from what I could see as he went across the top of the water he APPEARED 10-12 feet long,so I'm sure that means he was around 5-6 feet,LOL.Anyhoo,he was WAY to long and big-boddied to be local.I just went this weekend to have Avid chips put in all my snakes Saturday, and one of the officers told me about a snake they just picked up a few days ago, that had stretched himself across both lanes of Rt.82 to sun himself, and SOMEHOW managed to not get run over.He said they "measured" him @ 16 feet (so Im assuming 10-12 is more accurate LOL),but they said they don't have the facilities for big Boids so they get put down usually within a day or two He asked me if he could keep my # handy for the next one they got alive,if I could give it a temp home or help possibly connect it with an owner that would actually care for it.He also said they are required to call trappers for big stuff, and the property owners have to pay to have it removed.I told him sure,I would do what I could to help one stay alive a little longer or save someone who couldn't afford a few hunderd bux to have one removed. Not sure if anything will ever become of it,but who knows?
