You asked..."i know that panther chameleons are capable of possible sperm retention and can produce another clutch of eggs but my question is how can i tell if she does and how long after the first clutch has been laid?"...the clutch from retained sperm can be laid about the normal amount of time after the clutch where the chameleon was mated....or sometimes it can be laid sooner. It depends on where, during the cycle, the chameleon was mated. The clutch from retained sperm will likely be partly fertile and partly not....again...depending on where she was in her cycle when mated.



If you show her to the male and she acts non-receptive to him, then she is likely retaining sperm. Sometimes the female will be retaining sperm (keep her dark non-receptive color) but still be willing to mate with the male again. Its almost as if they "know" they need more sperm to fertilize more eggs.
