I think they have been bred before, and maybe some one sold them to the pet shop saying they have had eggs, so therefore the pet shop thought it was a male and female. And they are just retaining the sperm that is saved in their bodies. I have bred my female once like 3 months ago and she still lays fertile eggs with her retaining sperm. So she doesn't have to go through the stress of breeding.
