I have a 8 mo old JCP and I was wondering about his hiding habits. I upgraded him to a new tank last month that had turf on the bottom. Despite his hide boxes, I constantly found him under the turf. I have since replaced the turf with a different bottom (3 days ago) that he can not burrow under, yet he tries to push his head through the inpenitrable. Today was his first day he used his hide boxes. He also has plenty of arboreal support, branches and cover to use if he wishes.
Do most people's JCPs stay burrowed all day? Is it OK that I'm trying to get him to use the hide boxes or branches, instead of stashed under the substrate? He is otherwise a healthy, beautiful and tame snake.
Thanks in advance for the responses,
Jeff
