have a 6 year old female Leopard Gecko named Phoebe. Yesterday I went in to clean her tank and found her with this mass/bump on her abdomen. Of course I freaked out and called the vet. After a series of xrays the Vet was unable to conclusively determine that she was egg bound. She said that the mass looked fluid-like in density with soft tissue, and no calcifications. She then preformed an aspiration but was unable to pull any fluid out. She suggested exploratory surgery. I'm giving Phoebe antibiotics twice a day and crossing my fingers that it goes away (although I don't think it will). I'm a college student and don't have the money to pay for surgery.

Phoebe has layed fertile eggs about 4 years ago. From which healthy babies hatched. She also layed a few infertile eggs during that time, but hasn't been gravid in recent years. I do have a male gecko but they are never put together (he's too aggressive with his flirting). She has not been displaying any behavior that would indicate she is gravid and preparing to lay eggs. She also has a normal appetite and ate 2 days ago.

I'm not totally convinced she is egg bound, but I have no idea what this could be otherwise. Does anyone have any experience with egg bound geckos?? Does this resemble anything you have seen?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Ashley

The mass protrudes more than seen in this picture. Her eggs were never this big or protruded this much from her abdomen when she was gravid.
