fridge method works best for me, too. put them in there for a day, then the day I want to feed, I will set the rats on top of the snake cage for a little extra warmth and as soon as they are warmed up - ready. Using hot water takes too much attention - but can be done in the bathroom sink if you change out the water often enough.
