When I first started, I used Hovabators exclusively with 100% success rate. Using the "wafer" temps would fluctuate an average of 1-2 degrees but never more than 3. Not an issue with Ball Python eggs. I have found them to be extremely reliable. Hooked up to a reliable controller such as the Helix, temps should stay within 1-2 degrees. From the OP's description, it sounds like rotting eggs - which were probably infertile to begin with. ----- Jay A. Martin
