Also you might want to consider more hides. they stay out mostly at night, thats probably why he liked the black light more. I use a red heat bulb because my temps are not right with just the UTH. It can stay on all the time and I can still see him at night without interupting his day/night cycle. He always comes out about 8:00 every night looking for dinner.. thats when it gets dark here and its feeding time. Then he is out most of the night and usually still out for a few when I get up in the morning, then I dont see him again until 8. Do you hace a humid hide as well? just some things to consider. Also, the thermomter on the side isnt all that accurate. It is reading the air temps and is affected by the temps outside the enclosure as well. You need to get a reading on the substrate, chances are you will be surprised at the temp difference between the 2. My thermomter was almost 15 degrees less then the temp gun reading on the floor. Luckily it was still to cool, I could have fried my little guy. we keep our house VERY COLD...LOL
