The Mother of the Orangetail Hypos, and likely Grandmother, Great Grandmother etc., of most Hypos, was originally bred with a Colombian male. I don't know if Dr. Hardy always used the same male or not for all breedings but the first couple at least were with a Colombian male. The last time I spoke with Dr. Hardy was in around 1999. That female had produced something like nine litters by then from that female. One thing you have to keep in mind is that female came from the Colombian side of the Panama Canal and not that far from Colombia itself. So there isn't any reason why they should look a lot like Colombians really.
