I'd go along with the devenoming (venomoid?)idea. Defanging isn't as safe as one might think. I'm not sure about cobras but most front fanged venomous snakes have pairs of replacement fangs already growing in and folded back behind the set in use. In any case it looked pretty cruel for both parties involved.
