Thanks for the comments. Sri Lanka pythons are definitely smaller than Indians or Burmese. Average adult females top out at between 10 and 12 feet. The large females in my previous photos are around 11 feet and have pretty much stopped growing. Average males usually run 7 to 9 feet as adults. As I said earlier, I believe the one female to be gravid and hopefully she will drop a nice clutch in early July.
Many pure Sri Lanka tend to be more aggressive than other molurus subspecies, but not always. These two females are more active than Indians or Burmese, but they are easy to handle and have never shown aggressive behavior. Temperament is genetic, and this should show in the young as well.
The absolute unquestionable markers of pure Sri Lanka are the 6th upper labial scale touching the orbit of the eye, the almost total lack of the arrow marking on top of the head, and the high number of “H” shaped markings running down the back. Some pure Sri have a half arrow mark on the head, but so do some Indian or Burmese intergrades, so this can make their true identification problematic. Thanks again,
Kelly
